Question 1. What will happen to Earth if there are no more trees?
The earth will become hotter and eventually become a desert.
Trees are one of the sources of water vapor that is found in the air .They release water vapor through transpiration. If there are no trees, this water source will be cut off reducing the average rainfall of the earth.
Secondly, the absorption CO2 and release oxygen. If there are no trees, oxygen content in the air will come down gradually leading to death of plants and animals because of suffocation. While the increasing of CO2 content in the air would also lead to global warming and result in extreme weather conditions, increasing the speed of the death of the living things.
Tree's root protects the soil and prevents it from soil erosion and weathering. Without the trees, the soil won’t retain water which will cause the soil to be as dry as the sand in the dessert.
Question 2. How does the trees play a part in the atmosphere?
Trees help to prevent global warming by gaseous exchange and cleaning the air.
A gas that greatly causes global warming is carbon dioxide. Trees take in gases just like we do except when they breathe they take in carbon dioxide and oxygen. A tree changes the carbon dioxide it takes in into oxygen.
However, what we do not know is when trees die, they ROT, and when they rot, all the carbon they stored over the years will be oxidized and released into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide.
Well, not all of the carbon. Some part of it will be transferred to the soil. But in places like the Amazon Rain Forest, the soil is too thin to hold much carbon, so very little goes into the soil and what little does is rapidly released into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide.
On the other hand, if, instead of allowing trees to die and rot, we have to harvest the trees, turn them into lumber, and treat them to prevent rot, the carbon therein would be sequestered (prevented from oxidizing into the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere) almost indefinitely.
So in the end, both sides contribute to global warming and at the same time prevent global warming.
